From site prep to final commissioning – one team, one point of contact, one family name behind the work.
Most cottage builds break down in the gaps – between the excavator, the framer, the electrician, and everyone in between. We close those gaps. T. McMurray & Sons manages your entire build under one roof: site prep, foundation, framing, mechanical trades, in-house cabinetry, and final commissioning. You get one point of contact – Trevor – from the day the excavator arrives to the day we hand you the keys. If you’re coordinating a build from two hours away, that single line of accountability is everything.
Four-season cottages designed around how your family actually uses the lake – sightlines to the water, wide porches, spaces that host twenty people at Thanksgiving. We manage the full build from footings to final trim.
Sheds, barns, garages, and pavilions built to match your main structure’s finish and character – not bolted on as an afterthought. They get the same attention to framing and finish as the main build.
Three-season Muskoka rooms that extend your living space toward the water – screened, glassed, or a hybrid of both. We integrate the addition into your existing roofline cleanly.
Trevor holds Red Seal certification in Carpentry and Cabinetmaking - that means the same precision guiding your structure also shapes your finishes.
We build your kitchen and millwork ourselves, in-house. Most construction companies subcontract cabinetry out - we don’t have to.
Established relationships with Muskoka suppliers, inspectors, and trades mean fewer delays and fewer surprises.
Over 25 years building in this region, backed by a family name that’s stayed accountable to every client on every job.
We translate your vision into a real scope and budget – working with your architect or designer if you have one, or guiding the design ourselves.
Framing, mechanical trades, and finishes move forward under one schedule – including cabinetry and millwork, built in-house rather than subcontracted out.
Every decision runs through Trevor directly, and every schedule accounts for Muskoka’s short building season – no surprises, no guessing who’s in charge.
The first step is a conversation – no pressure, no obligation.

Thank you Trevor and team!”

Lake Muskoka
Set along the shores of Lake Muskoka, Ontario, this custom log home is a testament to timeless craftsmanship, thoughtful design, and the enduring value of family legacy. Built on the cherished site of a longtime family cottage, the project began with the careful demolition of the original structure to make way for a new retreat designed for generations to come. The homeowners thoughtfully carried pieces of their original cottage into the new home, blending treasured belongings and familiar touches with carefully selected new furnishings and décor to create a space that feels both meaningful and uniquely their own.
From the precision of the handcrafted log construction to the custom pine V-joint ceilings, bespoke millwork, and premium finishes throughout, every detail was thoughtfully executed to create a home of exceptional quality and lasting character. Custom stonework surrounding the fireplaces creates striking focal points throughout the home, adding natural texture, warmth, and a timeless connection to the Muskoka landscape. A thoughtful blend of drywall and natural wood creates a bright, refined interior, complemented by rich hardwood flooring and beautifully selected tile that add warmth, texture, and elegance throughout the home.
A spacious Muskoka room provides the perfect setting to take in breathtaking sunrises and sunsets over the lake while allowing the crisp Muskoka air to flow freely through the space, creating a seamless connection between indoor comfort and the surrounding landscape. The result is a one-of-a-kind lakeside retreat that honours the memories of the original family cottage while embracing a new chapter—crafted with intention, built with care, and designed to be enjoyed for generations to come.
Lake Joseph
Set against the iconic shoreline of Lake Joseph in Muskoka, this custom boathouse is a celebration of craftsmanship, timeless design, and lakeside living. Grandfathered to the property, the oversized boathouse represents a rare opportunity to preserve a scale and presence that can no longer be achieved under today’s waterfront regulations. The architectural vision, developed by the owners, provided the foundation for a space that is both highly functional and deeply connected to its natural surroundings. McMurray Construction brought that vision to life, providing the interior design, custom finishes, and exceptional level of craftsmanship evident throughout. Every built-in door, piece of millwork, custom cabinetry, and architectural finishing was crafted in-house, resulting in a seamless expression of quality and attention to detail. More than a place to store watercraft, the boathouse serves as a welcoming retreat where family and friends gather, offering effortless access to the lake while creating lasting memories. Designed to endure generations of Muskoka summers, it stands as a testament to thoughtful collaboration, enduring craftsmanship, and a deep appreciation for the timeless beauty of Lake Joseph.
We have on numerous occasions employed McMurray Construction to build for us over the last decades, whether that be to build a 2 storey boathouse, construct a cottage either on mainland or island, to rebuild a classic Lake Joseph cottage and to keep with the past architecture, Trevor is a one stop shop from start to finish. Be it barging, dock building, roofing, septic, road building, landscaping, sports courts or a full build out he is a one stop, all around contractor. Not only is Trevor a skilled and professional carpenter himself he has always completed his jobs in both a timely manner and within a reasonable budget. Trevor is hard working, honest and very loyal and remains a good friend 22 years after our first project.
We have just had our first full kitchen designed, built and installed by McMurray kitchen Cabinets and have already ordered one for the cabin.

Most custom cottages run 12–18 months from permits to final walkthrough, depending on size, site access, and scope. We’ll give you a realistic timeline once we’ve seen your site.
Ideally 6–9 months ahead. Muskoka’s permitting and building season is short, so early conversations protect your spot in our schedule.
Yes – barge-accessed and island builds are part of our regular work. Material logistics and scheduling look different, and we plan for that upfront.
Yes, we manage permitting as part of the process, including any shoreline or marine approvals boathouses require.
Absolutely. We regularly build from outside architectural drawings and coordinate directly with your designer through the build.
Every site and scope is different, so we’d rather give you a real number after an initial conversation than a generic range that doesn’t apply to your project.
